What is a UK Spouse Visa? Advice from Trusted Spouse Visa UK Solicitors:
A UK Spouse or partner visa allows someone to join or stay in the UK with their partner, who must be a British citizen, settled in the UK, or have refugee status or humanitarian protection. It’s a route for married couples, civil partners, or long-term partners to live together in the UK.
A UK Spouse visa can be applied for by partners who are married or in a civil partnership. However, other partners may also qualify for a partner visa. This includes where a couple have been in a relationship similar to a marriage for at least two years, or where there is an intention to marry or enter a civil partnership within 6 months of arrival. If you are unsure whether you qualify for a partner visa our experienced Spouse Visa UK Solicitors will be able to give you honest and transparent advice on this issue.
Spouse Visa UK Solicitors Explain – Who’s Eligible for a UK Partner Visa?
To be eligible for a Spouse Visa UK, you must be married to, or in a civil partnership with, a British citizen or someone who holds settled status (such as indefinite leave to remain). Your relationship must be genuine and ongoing – you will need to provide evidence of this, such as photographs, messages, or joint financial commitments. Our Spouse Visa UK Solicitors at OTB Legal can help you assess your individual circumstances and make sure you meet all the requirements before you apply.

How long is a UK Spouse Visa issued for?
A UK spouse visa is typically granted for a period of 30 months (2½ years) where the application is submitted from within the UK. If the application is made from outside the UK, the visa is usually issued for 33 months. This is because the Home Office will allow you an initial 3-month period to travel to the UK following the issuance of the visa.
As experienced spouse visa UK solicitors, we can advise you on the timing of your application and ensure that you are fully prepared for the next steps, including extension and settlement options.
What is the financial requirement for a UK Spouse Visa?
To meet the UK spouse visa financial requirement, your partner (the sponsor) generally needs to earn at least £29,000 per year. If you’re applying from within the UK and have the right to work, your income can also count. Those already on the spouse visa route before 11 April 2024 remain subject to the previous £18,600 threshold. The requirement can be met through various sources, including employment, self-employment, savings, or rental income. If your partner receives certain benefits, such as Personal Independence Payments, you may be exempt but must show you can be adequately maintained without public funds. Ensuring your financial evidence is accurate is essential, and as experienced spouse visa solicitors, we can advise on whether your circumstances meet Home Office rules.
