Kai Man OTB Legal Immigration Solicitor

Background

Kai joined the Personal Immigration Team at OTB Legal in September 2026, bringing more than a decade of experience across personal immigration, asylum, nationality and human rights law.

Before joining OTB Legal, Kai was a supervising solicitor at a Legal 500-ranked immigration practice, where he was recognised by the directory as a ‘key lawyer’ and advised on complex asylum, human rights and deportation matters. He previously trained as a solicitor at Birnberg Peirce Solicitors.

Before entering private practice, Kai volunteered with organisations supporting asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants. This included Bail for Immigration Detainees (BID), where he assisted individuals held in immigration detention and facing removal from the UK. He has also provided pro bono immigration advice through Toynbee Hall’s Legal Advice Centre to individuals who may otherwise have struggled to obtain legal support.

Kai graduated from the University of East Anglia with an LLB before completing the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law.

Areas of Expertise

Kai advises on the full spectrum of personal immigration matters, including applications under the Immigration Rules, British nationality and citizenship applications, discretionary leave applications, appeals, and complex human rights claims. His expertise includes cases involving Articles 3 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), including claims advanced outside the Immigration Rules. His practice encompasses all stages of the immigration process, from initial applications and appeals before the First-tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal to judicial review proceedings.

Kai acts for a diverse client base, including individuals and families, as well as particularly vulnerable clients, including those who lack mental capacity, experience severe mental ill health, or are survivors of trafficking and other serious human rights abuses. His clients have included prominent political activists, public figures, and former heads of state.

Kai is an Accredited Senior Caseworker under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme.
